Choir Concert
In Aid of The Sam Beare Hospice |
|
Treble Clef Ladies
Choir &
Weybridge Male Voice Choir |
|
|
|
|
Concert Summary |
|
Treble Clef Ladies' Choir and Weybridge Male Voice Choir,
under the baton of their musical Director Christine Best
will sing for the Sam Beare Hospice. Guests are The Pafties,
St Benedicts Catholic School, Ealing. |
|
 |
|
Sam Beare Hospice |
|
Weybridge Hospital has been in the hearts and minds of the
people of Weybridge since it was built with donations from
local people in 1889. |
|
The Sam Beare Ward was opened in 1977 and provided care for
local cancer patients. In 2006 the Sam Beare Ward became the
Sam Beare Hospice, a registered charity. It is no longer
part of the NHS, but has to be funded by public donations. |
|
It costs £1.5 million per year to fund the ten beds and
community services provided by the Hospice. It shares
management with Woking Hospice and provides specialist
palliative care to the residents of West Elmbridge,
Runnymede and Spelthorne. |
|
In the current economic climate, the money needed to fund
this unit is becoming increasingly difficult to find and
there is a real danger that the local community will lose
this important service. |

More About The Concert |
|
The two choirs both practise within a stone’s throw of the
Hospice and are keen to support their most local charity.
They are looking forward to a packed house and a bumper
donation to the Hospice of all the net proceeds from the
concert. |
|
Tickets for the concert cost £10 and will include
refreshments after the concert. Both choirs will perform
songs from their respective repertoires and will be
supported by The Pafties, a boys’ choir from St Benedicts
School in Ealing. The performance will end with the two
choirs joining together and singing “You Raise Me Up”, “Non
Nobis Domine” and “Deep Harmony”. |
|
The Choirs would like to acknowledge the kind support of
Father Tom Treherne of
Christ The Prince of Peace. |

|
| Thursdays - Practice. Sundays - ringing for the
Parish Eucharist (9.15 - 10am). The group also ring at
other times for weddings, occasionally funerals, special
services, festivals, and sometimes just for fun! |
| The bells are rung by a band of about a dozen people
ranging from school-age up to post retirement. |
| We welcome anyone who would like to try ringing,
together with any ringers who would like to visit,
either individually to a practice or service ring, or as
part of a band on an outing or for a peal. |
|
St.
James is fortunate to have a peal of 8 bells (Tenor
11cwt, 3 qtrs, & 7 pounds) which, following a re-hang
and re-tune in 1989 are one of the nicer peals to both
ring and listen to in the Diocese. A sound control
system which allows us to reduce the volume
significantly for practices and other non-service
ringing.

|
The choir exists to lead and support
the worship of the church through music both at regular
weekly services and on other special occasions. It is a
mixed voice choir of over sixty choristers. Anybody
wishing to join is made very welcome. No auditions are
held. Our young choristers are prepared for RSCM Dean's
Bishop's and St Cecilia Junior and Senior awards. |
|
Our comprehensive library contains
music of all periods and each week an anthem is sung at
the Sunday Eucharist service. The choir has also sung
evensong in Guildford Cathedral and Westminster Abbey on
a number of occasions. The choir performs an annual
concert and has been responsible for raising over
£88,000 for local charities. |
